One of the biggest hurdles that TM need to overcome in order to do that is the limitation of copper infrastructure. Alongside fibre optics and wireless implementation, the company has revealed that it will also be using the GiGA Wire technology to solve the issue. For those who are not familiar with the technology, GiGA Wire allows a premise with copper infrastructure to receive fibre-like Internet speed without modifications to the existing wiring. This particular technology is already on trial locally by YTL Communications and a recent live demonstration involving head-to-head comparison against existing Streamyx implementation has shown its potential. The rollout of the improved network that will run on these technologies is expected to be completed in 2021 although customers migration will begin from today onwards. TM expects that 70% of such customers will be able to be onboard unifi by the end of 2020.

As mentioned in our previous report, TM will be offering wireless broadband as a temporary measure for these customers while the company is upgrading its network until 2021. However, more details regarding this will only be announced later.
