When we visited the site back on 2 June, the banner for Surface Laptop Go 2 was accompanied by the label “New”. Today, we have noticed that the label has been updated to “Coming July 2022” and this is something that has not yet been announced by Microsoft. If you are not familiar with this particular member of the Surface family, the Surface Laptop Go 2 is the current entry-level model for the clamshell-based Surface devices. It is not the most basic offering of the entire Surface family though as that role belonged to the Surface Go 3 which has a 2-in-1 form factor instead. The Surface Laptop Go 2 is also essentially a refreshed mode as it does not offer anything new when it comes to the physical design. In fact, the laptop still has the same 12.4-inch PixelSense touchscreen with a 1536 x 1024 resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio just like its predecessor. [Image: Microsoft]What made the second-generation model different though is the fact that it is running on an 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 as opposed to the 10th Gen Intel Core chip in the original Surface Laptop Go. Additionally, Microsoft has also gotten rid of the eMMC-based 64GB flash storage and has opted for a 128GB solid state drive as the base storage option while retaining the 256GB SSD for those who require more space. While it may not be much, Surface Laptop Go 2’s battery life is rated at 13.5 hours which is just 30 minutes longer than its predecessor. Since the product has not yet been introduced in Malaysia, we have no knowledge of the laptop’s price tag but in the United States, the Surface Laptop Go 2 has a starting price of USD599 (~RM2,648) if you need a reference point.
