According to SamMobile, the South Korean electronics giant reportedly has a new Exynos chipset in the pipeline and that it would be designed to work hand-in-hand with a Windows PC. The new chipset is also allegedly based on Samsung’s current Exynos 1000 SoC and it could be ultimately be called the Exynos 1. SamMobile goes on to say that the Exynos 1000 SoC may be built upon Samsung’s next-generation 5nm EUV process node and could also be paired with the ARM’s Cortex-X1 CPU. Sadly, beyond those details, there’s not a whole lot of information about the processor, nor how far the rabbit hole Samsung’s investment on the CPU is.
Samsung’s choice of expanding its Exynos lineup isn’t uncommon, neither is it as surprising. As you all know, Apple announced during its recent WWDC livestream that it was moving away from Intel’s chips and developing its own ARM-based processors for all its future Mac products. Getting back on point, there’s also the possibility that Samsung’s new Windows-centric Exynos chipset could end up using a GPU courtesy of AMD; Last year, Samsung announced that its future chipsets will be powered by AMD’s RDNA architecture.
