Samsung said that this will allow access to games “without purchasing high-end hardware”. The company also said that developers can “easily apply Samsung smart TVs’ seamless, immersive gaming experience to new games”. The company didn’t explain the way this works beyond the fact that it makes use of the Tizen operating system. Ditto details of the company’s cloud gaming plans. If the phrase cloud gaming were to be the clue, one would imagine that it would work in the way existing offerings like Xbox Game Pass, Google Stadia or Nvidia GeForce Now. The idea of gaming without getting hardware makes sense now when there’s a severe shortage of said hardware. All that being said, it remains to be seen what the company plans to do that will allow it to stand apart from the competition. Of the three examples mentioned above, two of them have been successful to varying degrees. And the other is pretty much an empty husk of its former self owing to business decisions. But one thing that they all have in common is that they are not officially available here in Malaysia. Maybe Samsung’s initiative can change that, but don’t hold your breath for it.
