As a quick primer, the MTA was founded back in 2019 by the three popular Chinese smartphone brands: Xiaomi, vivo, and OPPO. Some say that the alliance was borne out of necessity for a file transfer protocol, similar to Apple’s Air Drop, that would allow consumers using any phone under those brands to seamlessly transfer files from one phone to another through the use of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. In Samsung’s case, the Korean electronics giant’s name was added to the list about a couple of months ago. Since its formation, the Alliance has grown and now includes other brands like realme, OnePlus, Meizu, and more importantly, Samsung. Simply put, this means that consumers looking forward to owning either a Z Fold3 or Flip3 will be able to transfer all the files from their MTA-certified device directly to either foldable device.
