According to the official product page, ISOCELL 2.0 is a refinement of the imaging technology featuring further reduction in the slight optical loss that occurred in the original ISOCELL sensor. How Samsung addressed this issue in ISOCELL 2.0 was done in two phases. In the first phase, dubbed ISOCELL Plus, Samsung replaced the metal barriers within the pixel with a new, optimised material. In the second phase, Samsung then proceeded to replace the lower portion of the colour filter barrier with an even more reflective material, effectively reducing the “optical loss” within each pixel and dramatically improving the light sensitivity within them, essentially giving them the ability to absorb more light and detail, all without compromising colour reproduction as well. At the time of writing, Samsung did not specify when its new ISOCELL 2.0 sensor will ship out. However, given the brand’s nature and habits, it’s possible that we could be looking at it as early as September this year, seeing how that is when its next Unpacked event of the year typically happens.
