Per Variety: The choice to make Pattinson the new Caped Crusader has been met with criticism and backlash from fans since early rumours started circulating the internet. However, after playing a sparkling vampire in the Twilight film series, Pattinson has moulded himself into one of the most underrated actors working in Hollywood today. Previously, the likes of Michael Keaton and Heath Ledger also received tremendous backlash from fans upon their respective casting as Batman in Tim Burton’s 1989 film and The Joker in Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Both of whom received massive acclaim upon their films’ release. But if you’re unwilling to put your faith in Robert Pattinson, then at least trust in Matt Reeves. Reeves is a phenomenal helmer who previously worked on the poetic and emotionally poignant Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War For the Planet of the Apes. Reeves definitely sees something in Pattinson.
Reeves has previously mentioned that The Batman will be a neo-noir crime film. This will finally bring to screen an element of Batman from the comics that is yet to be explored in cinema: He’s the world’s greatest detective.
