[ORIGINAL ARTICLE: 8 July – 5:58pm] OnePlus has officially confirmed its upcoming Nord device, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G. The company also revealed that the phone will be powered by the flagship-grade Dimensity 1200-AI processor. As part of MediaTek’s Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture program, the company collaborated with OnePlus to ‘enhance AI-based features’ of the Dimensity 1200 5G chipset. The improved AI hardware on the chip will be used to improve the phone’s camera, enhance its display, and lower response times during gaming. OnePlus gave the example of the AI Photo Enhancement, where the Nord 2 5G can recognise up to 22 different photography scenarios and can even automatically adjust colour tones and contrast in the photos taken in low-light situations. The phone’s AI Video Enhancement feature can enable live HDR effects in real-time at the time of recording.

The phone also has DOL-HDR tech, similar to the OnePlus 9, which allows it to adjust tuning and image quality during live recording and even enhance the colour range and accuracy of the videos. As for how the display takes advantage of AI, Smart Ambient Display takes into account the surrounding environment as well as the screen content to achieve more accurate automatic brightness control. The Dimensity 1200-AI will even be able to upscale standard definition, standard dynamic range videos to HD (AI Resolution Boost) and HDR (AI Color Boost). While only the phone’s processor has been confirmed, other details of the phone have already made their way online. From what we know, the phone will have a 6.53” 90 Hz 1080p+ AMOLED display, a 4500mAh battery with fast charging, a 50MP main camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a depth sensor on the back, plus a 32 MP selfie camera.
