According to 9to5Google, the OnePlus 8 is allegedly launching in the month April, specifically, 15 April. The exact date itself hasn’t been confirmed by OnePlus itself, but does coincide with the brand’s earlier statement of an April launch for its 7th generation device. More interestingly, OnePlus may also have found a brand ambassador in the form of Robert Downey Jr. This rumour was reportedly confirmed through a series of pictures of the man himself. Posted on Instagram – most likely by mistake – by a photographer who was on site for what appears to be a photoshoot of both the phone and the man. Naturally, those photos have since been removed, but not before being saved and shared on the internet for all to see.
This isn’t the first time Robert Downey Jr. has endorsed a brand and its product. Some of you may remember when the actor was the face of another smartphone brand, HTC, several years ago. Sadly, the man’s involvement had more to do with endorsing the brand’s supposed “vision” for change, and less with an actual product for the consumer market. In any case, we’ll just have to wait until 15 April, both to see if the OnePlus 8 really is coming and if Tony Stark himself really is the new face of the brand. Details about the phone’s hardware are scarce, but if OnePlus’ trend is anything to go by, we’re probably looking at a phone powered by the latest Qualcomm 865 SoC and a 120Hz display.
