Images of the new Shield TV has already been taken down from the online retailer’s site, but sadly, not before 9to5Google managed to save the relevant images. More importantly, one of the images gives us a brief rundown of what consumers can expect from the console and its thermos-shaped, cylindrical form factor. In terms of size, the new Shield TV measures in at 165 x 40 mm, making it smaller than your average soundbar. That also makes it small enough to be fitted directly underneath a TV, which could be NVIDIA’s intention with the design.
Specs-wise, the new Shield TV is powered by a more powerful Tegra X1+ processor, but only comes with an internal storage capacity of 8GB. That’s half the capacity of what NVIDIA is offering with its other Shield TV Pro. Fur1ther, the new Shield TV supports 4K resolutions and AI upscaling, along with HDR10, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. For ports, the Shield TV 2019 comes with an Ethernet port, one HDMI port (presumably HDMI 2.0b). Further, this Shield TV comes with a remote with backlit buttons. On that note, the streaming console runs on Google’s Android TV OS. The Shield TV 2019 is expected to retails around US$150 (~RM627). At the time of writing, NVIDIA didn’t say if the console will be available in Malaysia, but it’s very unlikely to happen.
