The Bahasa Melayu option can be set through the “Manage Profiles” section of the service via one’s web browser although once chosen, it will also be applied on Netflix’s mobile, smart TV, and console apps.

For users with multiple profiles, worry not, the option is being implemented on individual profile level which means that your preferences for Bahasa Melayu would not affect the language settings for other profiles within your account. Aside from the user interface, Netflix is also rolling out Bahasa Melayu audio and subtitles for contents within its service. While the company didn’t provide the full list of contents that have Bahasa Melayu options but it is apparently coming to some of the Netflix Originals such as Stranger Things, The Witcher, Kingdom, and The Umbrella Academy. In fact, we just checked The Witcher for the option before we published this article and turns out that the Bahasa Melayu subtitle is already available for the series. Yes, the subtitle covered the highly infectious Toss A Coin to Your Witcher song too:

All in all, the new Bahasa Melayu implementation is yet another effort by Netflix to attract more Malaysians to become its subscriber. Before this, the company has also launched its affordable Mobile Plan in our market which allows users to subscribe to Netflix for only RM 17 per month. Furthermore, one can also easily purchase Netflix gift cards at 7-Eleven. Not to forget, Netflix has also worked with Malaysian filmmakers, comedians, and production companies to bring local content to its platforms.
