Thanks to it’s long running status as one of the biggest and most prestigious events in Asia, SEAM will also be serving as a stop on 3 major fighting game esports circuits: the Capcom Pro Tour (Street Fighter V), Soul Calibur Asia League (Soul Calibur VI), and the Dragonball FighterZ World Tour (Dragonball FighterZ), meaning that the stakes for these tournaments will be particularly high as their premier status puts more prize money and global ranking points on offer. Of course, since this competition is taking place just next door to our shores, we will have several top Malaysian players travelling to Singapore in order to pit their skills against the many international players that will be present. Here’s a rundown on the top Malaysian players that will competing at SEAM this year: Street Fighter V – IamChuan, Kofmaster
Fresh off their victory at the Street Fighter V Asia Invitational in Tokyo, the 2 best Street Fighter V players in Malaysia will be competing in the Capcom Pro Tour Open Premier tournament that is taking place at SEAM. As one might expect from a tournament of this caliber, every pool in the tournament is stacked with elite players. Chuan will be in pool 3 where he will have to go through Japan’s top Ibuki player, Fujimura as well as former EVO runner-up Gamerbee. Meanwhile, Kofmaster will be in pool 4 where his very first match will be against StormKUBO, one of Japan’s top grappler players. If Kofmaster manages to beat his first opponent, he will then have to go through Trashbox, the no.1 ranked online player, followed by Fuudo, a former EVO champion. This is as tough as a bracket can get, but Kofmaster certainly has the ability to compete with these players at the top international level. Soul Calibur VI – InC | Grimrst, InC | NeonFaith After their impressive showing which saw them make the top 8 of the Soul Calibur VI tournament at the Penang Esports Festival, Grimrst and NeonFaith from the fighting game team known as Infinite Carnage will be looking to outdo themselves at SEAM this year. The brackets for this game are just as stacked as Street Fighter V, and they will have to go through world class players such as Singapore’s Shen Yuan, France’s Kayane and the Penang Esports Festival champion 575 from Taiwan. Both Grimrst and NeonFaith have been showing continuous improvement as each major tournament goes by, and we have high hopes for them in what will be their most challenging bracket yet. Tekken 7 – Madrush, Shinato While the Tekken 7 tournament at SEAM unfortunately won’t be a Tekken World Tour event, it should still feature some of the top players in Southeast Asia. Representing Malaysia in this one will be Madrush and Shinato, 2 top Malaysian players that were previously sponsored by Flash Vision before they decided to discontinue their fighting game division. BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle – InC Hakkai, InC D.R. Fierce Repping Malaysia’s anime game scene, we have Hakkai and D.R. Fierce from team Infinite Carnage. Although games such as Blazblue and UNIST won’t be getting as many entrants as Street Fighter, the players in the brackets make up for it with pure passion and dedication to the game. Legenday Japanese players such as Fenritti and Abegen will be present in this bracket, so this tournament is sure to be challenging for our Malaysian representatives.
