A notice which went up earlier today on Astro’s official site confirmed that its customers’ database as well as MyKad data such as name, NRIC number, date of birth, gender, race and residential address are affected in this latest breach.
According to the notice, only 0.2% of Astro customers are affected, and no financial data was disclosed. Astro also claims, via the notice that they have addressed the incident immediately and stopped the unauthorized access. We have reached out to Astro for further details of the breach, but have been told that they will not be able to comment further on the incident, but are working with the police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and PDPA Commissioner to address the issues. Last year, Astro’s IPTV Customer Database was put up for sale online affecting personal details of over 60,000 of its customers. While the incident was investigated, there was no further developments to it that we were made aware of. We’re not entirely sure at the moment on who the ‘affected customers’ are, but if you somehow think you’re affected, you may contact Astro at pdpo@astro.com.my or wecare@astro.com.my.
